• What is Student-Centered Coaching?

This coaching approach is based on the work and findings of Diane Sweeney, the author of Student-Centered Coaching. Using this innovative approach, our coaches main purpose will be to support and assist teachers in reaching goals for their students’ learning. We will be collaborating and partnering with teachers throughout the year. The goal of the student-centered coaching is to work with teachers in order to design instruction that targets student achievement and creates maximum results.

    What It Is

    • an opportunity for us to work in a partnership.

    • guided by learning targets based on the standards.

    • deciding instructional strategies based on student evidence

    What It Isn't

    • teacher evaluative

    • telling someone what to do

    • a "fix the teacher" mentality.

    Our Guiding Principles

    Our Guiding Principles:

As student-centered coaches, we hold ourselves responsible to the following guiding principles:

    1. Put kids first: They are the reason we are here, in order to help them learn.

    2. Listen: We listen more than we talk. We want to learn about the other educators.

    3. Ask Questions: Seek first to understand by asking questions.

    4. Collaborate: Work with others, form a partnership in order to learn together.

    5. Be Professional: Our work together is confidential and non-evaluative.

    6. Be Positive: Look for the good in what is happening, presume positive intent.

  • How It Works

The goal of the student-centered coaching is to work with teachers in order to design instruction that targets student achievement and creates maximum results.

A coaching cycle will last approximately 4-6 weeks. In a cycle, we will work together to look at student work, plan lessons, and co-teach. You will choose the focus based on what would benefit students. Once a week we will meet together for approximately 30 minutes to plan and analyze student work, discuss lesson and teaching methods, and then use this information to drive our instruction.

Some of her favorites things to do in her free time are playing with her two dogs, Wylie and Mia, reading, knitting, cooking, and shopping - - - not necessarily in that order!
